Below is a picture of my father, Janik Porembski also known as Papa, taken about 6 years ago. He passed in 2017. He was a Nazi concentration camp survivor by age 9, lost his father to a midnight Nazi-raid, raised by a widowed mom who had PTSD from being in two concentration camps, and he was not allowed to attend school in Nazi occupied Poland.
Papa became one of the best national news cameramen in the United States, flying on Air Force One, meeting four US Presidents, and was often filming national news events for decades. He taught my brother and I video production, and became a father-figure to my daughters after they lost their own father.
After his stroke, Papa moved in with us when I as a 5-year widow. He was dizzy every day and used his time to pour love into our hearts, demanded I write books (which I’d never done) and pushed me start Widow Strong.
We all still hear Papa’s music in the love we have for one another. Our time on earth is precious. |
