Welcome to the Widow Strong October Newsletter! Fall is in the air! Let’s snuggle up to a cup of apple cider and soak in the crisp air. October is a great time to find inspiration, take a new view of things, and select our steps more thoughtfully or slowly). The vision of Widow Strong encircles being a supportive community empowering widows and their children to grow stronger together in body, mind, and spirit. With that, I am excited to share legacies we love, the fantastic 5K run that is upcoming (Miles for Bethany), some of my favorite fall activities, and more!🍂 By Carrie Stringer, Widow Strong Texas Chapter Leader & Board Member

Much More Than Miles… Read On
Bethany Rutledge’s passion for people, animals, and running shines on. Since Bethany’s untimely passing in 2019, every fall Widow Strong members and many others she touched gear up to participate in the Miles for Bethany 5K Race. Bethany Ruthledge wove her passion, expertise, and practical motivational steps into Widow Strong’s culture by coaching Mishael and the team of ladies during their first triathlon in 2016 and is featured in the accompanying 180 Your Life curriculum videos. So, let’s “take in the moment” (quote from Bethany’s book Courage to Tri)!
Bethany was an extraordinary mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, coach, competitor, and role model. With her friends and family, we will celebrate her life, support the causes she loved, challenge ourselves to be our best, and cheer each other onward! The Race Page shares: “PR chasers, first-timers, walkers, strollers, pushers, and paws are all invited to join us” (Miles for Bethany 5K Registration)!

Fall is a beautiful time of change.
Infusing fun into our days takes mindfulness, whether by planning or attending a fun happening, taking a moment to laugh, or caring for ourselves with healthy habits. Grieving can be exhausting; take heart in because this season, we can embrace God’s love for us and let Him usher in what we can let go of, what we relax in, and what we can edit in our lives. Below is a start to a season-friendly, encouraging, and friendly list of activities. What is on your fall list to do? Please share with us on the Widow Strong social pages!
- Find a favorite fall drink
- Visit a pumpkin patch
- Collect leaves and other treasures in the park to craft with
- Do some holiday baking
- Go apple picking
- Buy some fall-scented candles
- Spend some time journaling
- Coffee with good friends
- Chili party! Have everyone bring something
- Walk in the park
- Go on a hayride
- Join a painting class or watch tutorials to create a fall painting
- Make homemade apple cider

From Carrie: It has been a pleasure to report and share some inspirations with you. Being widowed twice, I received the extra love and support I was looking for just a few short years ago from the ladies of Widow Strong. One could get lost in the exponential ripple effect of hope and healing (a good thing)!
Mishael Poremski, the founder of Widow Strong, has worked and continues to work tirelessly to share tools with churches and chapters demonstrating God’s comprehensive care for widows and their fatherless children, teaching them to turn their pain into purpose. Our leaders and teams at Widow Strong are so thankful for your prayers and our growing partnerships!
With the upcoming holidays, we know it can be a trying time for those we serve. Widow Strong seeks to inspire widowed families to thrive this November and December as well as the following year. We depend on God’s blessings and support to share love, hope, and healing to widows and their children. Please consider updating your giving, volunteering, and sharing our organization with a friend. Stay tuned and buckle up for next month’s update! Thank you!
Stronger Together,
Carrie Stringer
